COMPETITION

It’s not enough to just study math, science, and engineering in the classroom. Homework and tests only show how well you can memorize formulas. We believe that to truly learn, you need to apply your knowledge outside of the classroom. Ask anyone who has a job, there is so much they don’t teach you in the classroom. That’s why LASA Robotics is involved in robotics competitions. From interpersonal skills to planning and time management, competing helps prepare our members for our competitive world with enthusiasm and integrity. Plus it’s fun!

What is FRC?

“Combining the excitement of sport with the rigors of STEM, FIRST® Robotics Competition (ages 14-18) teams use sophisticated technology to build and program industrial-sized robots to play an action-packed, alliance-based game on a themed field. With professional mentors and sponsors, students learn engineering and problem-solving skills that they can apply to real-world situations today and in the future. Using Gracious Professionalism, each team creates a team identity, raises funds to meet its goals, and works to promote STEM in their community.”

Why We Love FIRST

Participating in an FRC season empowers Purple Haze roboticists to cultivate a diverse range of skills, opening doors to esteemed college programs and internships. The work behind the scenes during the pre-season months involves developing game strategy, mastering industry-standard CADing and coding software, studying electronics, and learning to successfully operate powerful fabrication machines. When the official season starts in January, it’s game on and we operate like a NASCAR pit crew to solve problems and bring our unique robot concept to life and onto the playing field.

The experience of a live competition is like nothing you’ve ever seen. Robot matches are nail-biting and joyful celebrations of teamwork at its finest. We’re not just collaborating with our own team members to “win points” but we make strategic partner alliances with teams from all over the state and the world to lift each other up and achieve success together.

By design in FIRST, you’re competing with people, never against them. This is the mindset we want our future workforce to have in order to solve real global problems of safety, energy, and sustainability. It’s more than just a game. It’s making the world we want to live in.

The 2023-24 FIRST FRC season officially begins on January 6th, 2024. Learn more about the art-themed game on The Future is Yours to Create.
